The Woman I Admire Most In The World
If you’ve ever met my mom you would understand why she’s the woman I admire most in the world. She truly is such an inspiration and gives of herself each and everyday. In 1962, my mom, Sue Wade, founded Wade College in Dallas, Texas for those students who wanted to join the fashion and merchandising industries. She became interested in fashion at the age of 15 while working for a local department store. Her high school program allowed students to attend school half a day and then work half a day. Keep reading more about my inspirational mother and learn more about my amazing white ruffle eyelet blouse. You might also remember another post where I discussed my background as well REWARDSTYLE’S BEHIND THE SCREEN WITH STREET STYLE SQUAD + THE GUCCI GIVEAWAY.
She says that working while attending high school, “was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me because I was very, very bashful and very, very shy.” While working at the store my mom became a model for its fashion shows and also the buyer for their sportswear and lingerie lines, becoming responsible for purchasing products sold in the store. “So that is how I got started – I thought, wouldn’t it be fabulous to have a college where you could enroll students and have them work half a day and go to school half a day!” – offering exactly what she did as a young girl.
At age 20 she moved from Muskogee, Oklahoma to Dallas and started modeling for Neiman Marcus. She also began teaching modeling at local modeling schools. Just three years later in 1962 she founded Miss Wade’s Fashion Merchandising College that later became the fully accredited Wade College. She believes that, “it’s a wonderful fairy tale” and “for anyone who decides to get out there, work hard, make a living, and do well, that they can do it!” She never had to take out a loan or borrow money. She began with $1500 and once they opened the doors there were students. Since opening Wade College, it has added other degree programs such as Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, and Merchandise Marketing and Management and is in the process of being approved to offer Information Technology degrees.
In March 2012 she was recognized for her accomplishments in the fashion and education industries with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Fashion Group International. It was the 50th anniversary for the college and my mother says that, “she was very honored to have received it, she worked very hard to earn it, and it was such a nice honor.” My mom has been selfless in her devotion to helping others achieve their dreams and does not plan on stopping anytime soon; she says she will work her entire life. Her philosophy has always been, “love what you do” and she no doubt does!
Now I’d like to share with you my outfit details: my blouse is the Ulla Johnson Monroe Top in Blanc (also found here, similar for less here, here & here). This eyelet blouse is TTS I’m wearing a size 4 and it will be on major rotation in my closet from now through the end of summer. This type of blouse is my absolute favorite and I admit it I kind of have a slight obsession with them.
I’ve paired my white blouse with one of my favorite denim brands, the GRLFRND Karolina High-Rise Skinny Jean (also found here & here and similar for less here & here). These jeans do not have any stretch in them and when you first put them on you might think they are a little small. But just live in them a little while and you’ll see that the fit is just perfect. And you won’t want to take them off for they will be your new favorites. Most people size up in these jeans but I got my usual size 26. If you don’t like yours too fitted then yes go ahead and size up too.
I finished off my look with my new favorite black denim Marion Parke Beth eyelet detail sandals (also found here, similar for less here and here); my brand new ‘earring of the moment’ Annie Costello Brown Popova Gold Earrings also here and similar for less here and here; my Gucci GG Marmont Matelassé Shoulder Bag (similar for less here and here)and lastly, my Harper Hallam gold bracelets.
My sweet mom is wearing a Louis Feraud Vintage Suit// Salvatore Ferragamo Blouse (also found here)// Ivy Kirzhner Boots// Katherine The Great Amber Necklace + Her Lifetime Collection of Charm Necklaces// Fendi Belt (also found here)//
I couldn’t have asked for a better role model growing up. My mother always worked. And I think it made me a better person as I have always seen how much joy her work has brought to her. My goal has always been to be half as good of a mother as she was. My three girls are honestly my biggest accomplishment in my life. I could not be more proud of the young ladies that they are becoming. All I ask now is that God slows down time because they are just growing up way too fast for me. I love each of them with my whole heart and like we always say, “I love you to the moon and back.”
xx,
tiffany
